佐近田展康  


音楽家/メディア・アーティスト/メディア理論研究者


1961年神戸生まれ。

1990年代初頭からコンピュータ音楽やメディアアートのためのプログラミング環境Max等を駆使した創作活動を展開して来た草分け的アーティストのひとり。1998年以降は独自の人工音声生成プログラムの開発を続け、テーマを〈機械と声〉にフォーカスした音楽作品、メディア・アート作品を発表している。


そのプログラムから発せされるさまざまな〈声〉は、人声と機械音の境界をつねに揺らぎながら不気味なリアリティを放つ。2004年より自ら改造ガスマスクと防護服を着用し人工音声でパフォーマンスする「佐近田展康機械歌謡ショウ」公演を各所で行う。ライブエレクトロニクス作曲作品では、トランペットと機械歌唱のための「機械ミッション」(2001/曽我部清典委嘱)、ピアノ・ソプラノ・機械歌唱のための「トワノコエ」(2003/高橋アキ委嘱)などがある。


赤松正行とのユニット“ノイマンピアノ”では、Maxに関する唯一の日本語解説書を1996年以来4冊刊行し、日本におけるメディア・アート・シーンを牽引する役割を果たす。現在は「Maxの教科書」が出版されている。


三輪眞弘とのユニット「フォルマント兄弟」でも精力的に活動し、鍵盤で人工音声を演奏し宅配ピザを注文するパフォーマンスは広く知られる。亡きロック歌手フレディ・マーキュリーの声を合成して日本語で革命歌インターナショナルを歌わせる作品は、Prix Ars Electronica 2009で入賞。その後も日本の民謡や演歌における伝統的歌唱法に取材しながら、人間の手で〈声〉を生演奏する迂回路から初めて見える未踏の世界を探求し続けている。


同種のテーマはメディア理論研究にも広がり、人類学的技術と近代テクノロジーの断層に〈機械〉を置く着想に基づき、中世から現代に至る機械概念の考古的とらえ直しを行うなかで、機械、メディア、声、亡霊などをめぐる論考を発表している。また、フォルマント兄弟としても東京藝大、グリニッジ大、東大などで作品背景のメディア理論に関するパネル発表を行う。


その他、サウンド・インスタレーション個展「watermachine」、ソロCD「時計仕掛けのエルメス」、コンピレーションCD「room207」など。

Nobuyasu SAKONDA



musician / sound media artist.

Born in Kobe/Japan, 1961. By utilizing and criticizing computer technology,  especially programing original softwares with Max/MSP/Jitter, he has been creating music and sound media art works from a unique philosophical viewpoint of "Archeology of Machine".


Recently he has focused on the realtime synthesis of highly realistic singing voices and has been implementing it in his compositions, live performances and sound installations, such as a series of live performances Machanovacal Show, KIKAI Mission for trumpet, radio and mechanovocal commissioned by Kiyonori Sokabe, TOWANOKOE for piano, soprano and mechanovocal commissioned by Aki Takahashi.


He is also known as a member of neumanpiano with Masayuki Akamatsu that has introduced Max/MSP/Jitter to Japan leading Japanese media art scenes by publishing 4 great books on its programing techniques, Max Textbook, 2061:Max Odyssey, Trans Max Express and Magical Max Tour. And he is also a member of Formant Brothers with Masahiro Miwa, the video documentation of their live performance Ordering a Pizza de Brothers, and Le tombeau de Freddie (ArsElectronica 2009 Honorary mention) are available on YouTube.

Currently, he is the professor teaching sound media art and media theory at the Department of Visual Media, Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences.
